This Butterfly Beach engagement session with Taylor and Nick still feels like a dream. We met on a beautiful partly cloudy day in Santa Barbara, and the light could not have been better. Soft skies, calm ocean, and that relaxed beach energy that makes everything slow down a bit. From the start, the session felt easy and natural.
I first met Taylor and Nick at a friend’s wedding where they were both part of the bridal party. Even then, their connection stood out. They laughed often, stayed close, and felt completely comfortable together. Because of that, photographing their engagement session felt extra meaningful. It was a chance to document their story in a more personal way.
Butterfly Beach is one of my favorite locations for engagement photos in Santa Barbara. It offers so much variety while still feeling simple and timeless. During this session, Taylor and Nick walked barefoot along the shoreline, talked quietly, and laughed through most of it. Instead of posing, they focused on each other, which always creates the most honest images.
As the clouds moved slowly across the sky, the light stayed soft and flattering. Meanwhile, the ocean added that calm backdrop that never distracts. Everything worked together naturally, and the session flowed without effort.
Taylor looked stunning with makeup by Cheek to Cheek. Her look felt fresh, natural, and perfect for the beach setting. It photographed beautifully and fit her so well. Nick could not stop smiling at her, which made capturing those moments feel effortless. Those small reactions are always my favorite part.
Now, looking back at this session feels even more special. Taylor and Nick are married, and their wedding took place at the Ritz Carlton Bacara in Santa Barbara. Wedding Kate planned their day, and her work is always thoughtful and beautifully done. You can see more of her work here:
